Access weather forecasts
Ability to receive daily text weather forecast for a specific area by simple plug in of an ipad
This one puzzles me why Spot hasn't deployed such an easy, and essential function. I miss the forecasts that I could get on the InReach.
With a bit of trial and error, I hacked my own auto e-mails for weather using the Dark Sky api and Zapier. Using Zapier, I can make an api call into Dark Sky, then have Zapier send out the api results to my Spot email address (at fixed intervals of the day). If I could do this with an afternoon of trial and error with readily available data sources, then I expect the developers of Spot, who can beam 140 characters to a satellite hundreds of miles away with pin-point precision, could do this with arms tied behind their back and blindfolded.
I agree with Andy. I am a Colorado elk hunter and use a SPOT X. It would be so useful (and easy) to have the following functionality. It would work like this.
1) I would send sms from SPOT X that 4-day weather forecast is requested for the location I am presently.
2) SPOT X would send me a sms message with 140 char. report on weather.
Done. Could be automated easily on SPOTs side. This would make the SPOT X a much more valuable tool in the backcountry than it already is and help it to compete with the other devices out there that offer this.
My present workaround is this. I have a pre-defined message that says more or less, "Send me a 4-day forecast for this location". The person who gets the message then researches for me and sends me back a message with forecast. Works, but it'd be better if it could be automated and I didn't have to bother another person.

After FETCH NEW MESSAGES, provide a local 3-day weather forecast.
I am a long distance sailor and find the weather reports on the Garmin inReach useful. Although the keyboard on the Spot X is handy, I don't think you will get many sailors switching from the inReach to the Spot X unless you add a weather feature like the inReach. The weather reports would also be useful for those using the Spot X on land.
